China has designated this as an official tourist town, so it looks just like the other tourist towns. Lots of small shops. It is still worth visiting, but whatever it was that we were supposed to see isn't here any more. I'll see what we see today.
The portions of China I have seen don't seem that poor. There are a lot of farmers who work hard for a living. On this trip, I get a glimpse of how American farmers must have lived 50 or 100 years ago. The crops and animals are different and the culture is different, but there are similarities.
I'm looking forward to Tibet. I saw on the news where China is building trains to Tibet, so it may look more touristy in 2 years.
