Lots of hiking today

I left San Diego on Monday, April 24, and this is the first time I got around to updating my blog. I drove the the airport. Traffic wasn't bad, so it took about 2 hours. I found out that Air China and China Airlines are two different companies. I was plenty early, so I had time to correct my mistake.

Hanoi is crowded with a huge number of very small businesses. Everybody wants to sell you something and some people harrass you. Fewer pickpockets than Europe -- I didn't see any.

I am currently in Sapa -- A former French outpost at 5000 feet. A large number of caucasion tourists who don't speak English. Many are French.

Today, the group accidentally left the hotel without me, so I had to find them later. I missed out on the native dancing show, but wandered all over Hamrong Mountain. At one point, I was sweating so much that steam was coming off my back. I was waiting for the group when they came out of the show.

Later we road on the back of motorcycles to a a place where we could hike through two villages. Long hike. We saw the black hmong and dao people today.
